Morning Workshops
Community & Economic Development - Our nation within the last years has faced major economic change and the Upstate New York Region has not been any different. During this session you will learn about the current economic status of Latinos in our area. What are the trends and what does the future hold? What's within our control and what is not?
Education - The panelists will discuss the education of Latino students with a focus on the drop-out rates including the root causes, possible solutions, best practices and effective collaboration.
Health - Everyday there's a new statistic regarding Latinos and disparities in health. We know that there are disparities everywhere in the health care system. The true issue is what are we doing locally to ensure the well-being of Latinos in our communities. This workshop will discuss how health care providers in Upstate NY are addressing the health care disparities affecting Latinos.
Afternoon Workshops
Immigration - Will address the challenges that Latino immigrants are facing in our communities. Emphasis will be given to identifying the social, political and economic infra-structure barriers that hinder the well being of Latino immigrants. We will also discuss strategies that can be adopted to eliminate those barriers.
Legislative Action - Will address how effective we have been in our own communities when it comes to getting our political representatives involvement in the issues of the Latino community.
Small Business Development - Will bring issues that are typical for entrepreneurs from our culture, when starting a Small Business in the USA and the different obstacles and possible problems they might have encountered, at the beginning, during the development, and throughout the process to run a business in America.
Workforce Development - Will address how Latinos continue to lag behind on employment and the career opportunities available. What we need to do as a community to be a voice for those less fortunate.
Youth - The youth continue to deal with social, economic distress, violence, and many other factors to have a productive and successful life. How we are assisting our Latino youth to overcome these challenges in every community?
