ABOUT THE SUMMIT

Now in its fifth year, the Upstate Latino Summit has become the “go to” event for people who want to learn about the challenges and issues facing Latino New Yorkers living north of New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley.

Founded by Hispanics United of Buffalo Executive Director Lourdes Iglesias, the Summit delves into such wide-ranging topics as Education and Higher Education, Immigration, Health Care and Mental Health Care, Job Creation and Economic Development, Job Creation and Youth. 

The Summit is a partnership of the Latino Community Based Organizations throughout New York State, including Centro Civico of Amsterdam, Centro Civico Hispanoamericano of Albany, the Mohawk Valley Latino Association, the Spanish Action League of Onondaga County, the Ibero-American Action League of Rochester and Hispanics United of Buffalo. Other organizations participating include Capital District 100 Hispanic Women, CNY Latino, Noticias y Notas, MKA Consultants and others.

Following its debut in Buffalo (2007), the summit has traveled to Rochester (2008), Syracuse (2009) and Albany (2010), and visits Mohawk Valley Community College this year in Utica.

More and more, the Summit is drawing visitors from outside of the I-90 Corridor. Attendees from other locations have included representatives of the Latino Civic Association of Tompkins County (Ithaca), the Latino Community Advocacy Program (Saratoga), and the Hispanic Ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg.

Who should attend? Anyone wanting to learn how to do business with the Hispanic/Latino community and expand to deepen the relationships with this great culture. You can develop a dynamic network of other high-achieving professionals with whom you can cultivate ideas and share concerns, and attack challenges. Find out how to best use Latino social, economic, cultural and political power.
